How to use the Limitless Pendant (legacy users guide)

Important: the Limitless Pendant is no longer sold. Meta acquired Limitless in December 2025 and Pendant sales ended shortly after. This guide is for users who own a Pendant already, or who are evaluating one on the secondary market. The desktop application continues to function and existing devices still capture and process audio, but the long-term cloud roadmap under Meta has not been announced. We recommend exporting historical data soon as a precaution and treating the Pendant as a working but uncertain product.

For: Limitless Pendant

Step by step

  1. 1

Confirm the Pendant is paired to your existing Limitless account

Open the Limitless desktop or mobile app and sign in. If you already had the Pendant before December 2025, the pairing should persist. New activations are not supported as of the post-acquisition shutdown.

  2. 2

    Update to the latest firmware

The app prompts for any pending firmware updates. The last pre-acquisition update added stability improvements; apply it. After Meta's acquisition, no new firmware has been pushed as of this writing.

  3. 3

Charge the Pendant on its magnetic cradle

Full charge takes about 90 minutes. The LED on the device turns solid when fully charged. Battery rated for ~a full workday of continuous use.

  4. 4

    Configure your consent prompt preferences

Limitless's consent design — its strongest editorial feature — prompts you to disclose recording when wearing the Pendant in mixed company. In Settings → Consent, choose whether the app prompts at start-of-day, on first interaction with a new person, or never (only do 'never' if you have a specific compliance need).

  5. 5

Pair the Pendant with the Limitless desktop app

If you primarily capture remote meetings on a Mac or Windows machine, install the Limitless desktop app and link your account. The desktop and Pendant work in tandem: the desktop captures system audio from Zoom/Meet/Teams, the Pendant captures in-person conversations, and the timeline merges them in the same searchable history.

  6. 6

    Export your historical conversations now

Open Settings → Data → Export. Pull a full export of your conversation history, transcripts, and summaries. Save the archive locally. This is a precaution against any future Meta business decision that affects Limitless data retention — the export exists today and may not in the future.

  7. 7

    Disclose recording in two-party-consent jurisdictions

Same legal context as any wearable AI recorder. The Pendant's consent-prompt design helps you remember; it does not replace the legal requirement. State at the start of a recorded conversation that the device is capturing audio.

Total cost of ownership

Hardware
~$99 (no longer sold; secondary market only)
Subscription
$19/month Limitless Pro (required for full features)
Year 1 total
~$99 + $228 = ~$327
3-year total
~$99 + $684 = ~$783

TCO calculations assume the subscription remains available; this is uncertain post-acquisition. For new buyers, the Plaud NotePin is the recommended substitute and substantially cheaper long-term.

Pitfalls worth knowing

  • Buying on the secondary market

Resale units exist but we do not recommend purchase. The Pendant depends on the Limitless cloud, and the cloud's long-term support under Meta is not guaranteed. A working Pendant today could brick on a future Meta business decision.

  • Relying on long-term data retention

Export historical conversations now. The Limitless data-retention policy under Meta has not been re-published; assume it could change.

  • Treating it as the safer wearable

Before December 2025 the Pendant's consent design and Limitless's track record made it the safest wearable AI recorder. That comparison no longer holds — the Plaud NotePin is now the safer 2026 bet because its cloud roadmap is not in doubt.

FAQ

Does the Limitless desktop app still work?
Yes, as of this writing. Existing users retain access to their historical conversations and the app continues to capture remote meetings. Meta has not announced a long-term roadmap.
Should I buy a Pendant on the secondary market?
We do not recommend it. The cloud dependency is a real risk; a working device today could brick on a future business decision.
Will Meta launch a successor product?
Meta has not announced a successor. Speculation that the Limitless technology will fold into the Ray-Ban Meta line is unconfirmed.
What should existing Pendant owners do?
Export your data now. Continue using the device as long as it works. Identify a successor (Plaud NotePin or Bee Pioneer) so you can switch quickly if the cloud changes.
Is Limitless Pro subscription still available?
Existing subscriptions continue billing as of this writing. New subscriptions are gated by the pause on Pendant sales.
