Alternatives to the Humane AI Pin
The Humane AI Pin is no longer functional. HP acquired Humane in early 2025 and shut down the Pin cloud, bricking every device in the field. If you searched for the Pin, you were probably looking for one of two things: a wearable AI assistant in pendant or pin form, or a hands-free way to capture and recall conversations. Both jobs are now better served by other products.

- #1 · Best wearable for capture
Plaud NotePin
The Plaud NotePin is the most direct functional replacement for what the Humane Pin promised. Push-to-talk capture, lanyard or lapel wear, strong transcription pipeline (OpenAI Whisper + GPT-4-class summarization), reliable Plaud cloud, no shutdown risk in sight. ~$159 hardware + $79/year Pro for unlimited transcription.

Bee Pioneer
Bee Pioneer is the alternative for users who want to own their AI memory data and route it through their own workflows. Published API, on-device redaction, clear data-handling policy. Recently acquired by Amazon; long-term roadmap watching but core product unchanged. ~$49 + $19/month.

Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2)
If the Pin's appeal was 'AI on your body without a phone,' the Meta Ray-Ban Gen 2 is the better-engineered version of that idea. Camera, microphones, Meta AI multimodal model, no projected display nonsense. Looks like ordinary Ray-Bans. ~$299 base.

Friend
If what you actually wanted from the Pin was an AI to talk to, not a productivity tool, Friend is the one product on the market that admits that's the goal. Different category from the others on this list. ~$99 preorder.

Before you switch
Three things to think about before buying any wearable AI device after the Humane shutdown. (1) Cloud lifespan matters more than launch features — prefer companies with active update cadence and a track record. (2) Subscription cost compounds; the Pin's $24/month plus the device cost was the steepest in the category, and the maths is even worse for a device that no longer works. (3) Consent and two-party-recording laws apply to every always-on listening device; the Pin's design hand-waved this, and so did some of its competitors. The category has matured on this question — products like Limitless Pendant (before Meta acquired it) and Bee Pioneer have published consent designs you can defend in shared spaces.
FAQ
- Is there a refund program for Humane Pin owners?
- Humane offered limited refunds in mid-2024 for the charging case battery overheating issue. After HP's acquisition in 2025 the refund situation was inconsistent. Check your original purchase channel.
- Can I trade in my Humane Pin?
- No formal trade-in program exists. The device has no resale value because it cannot perform any AI function after the cloud shutdown.
- What was Humane's projected laser display supposed to do?
- Project a small interface onto the user's palm or any surface. In practice the display struggled in bright light, consumed battery aggressively, and was discontinued with the product. No current AI pin uses projected display; the category has moved to phone-paired display, smart glasses with onboard displays (G1, Frame), or no display at all (Plaud, Bee, Friend).
- Which alternative is the closest substitute?
- For most Humane Pin buyers — who wanted hands-free AI capture and ambient assistance — the Plaud NotePin is the closest functional substitute and the safer 2026 bet.
